Nigerian singer Cynthia Morgan has urged her colleagues in the music industry to stop soliciting music promoters for show bookings. Her statement follows an online clash between Grammy award-winning artist Burna Boy and socialite Cubana Chiefpriest, who claimed he once paid Burna Boy ₦1 million to perform as a backup artist at his 2018 birthday party.
Sharing her own experience on Instagram, Cynthia revealed she was paid the same amount in 2018 for a show, only to face false accusations from the organizers. She advised artists to value themselves and avoid settling for such arrangements, writing, “Make artiste no dey collect beggy beggy show again. Crazy world.”
This comes amid broader discussions on respect and professionalism within the Nigerian music industry. Many fans applauded Cynthia’s stance, calling for artists to uphold their worth and avoid compromising situations.
