Aliko Dangote has reaffirmed that the Dangote Petroleum Refinery has enough petrol in storage to meet Nigeria’s needs. During a weekend tour of the facility by Zambia’s Energy Minister, Makozo Chikote, Dangote revealed that the refinery currently holds over half a billion litres of refined petroleum products, valued at more than ₦600 billion. He assured that the refinery is capable of supplying 100% of Nigeria’s fuel requirements, including petrol, diesel, and kerosene.
Beyond Nigeria, Dangote emphasized the refinery’s strategic role in Africa’s energy security, aligning with the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) initiative. He stated that the facility is well-positioned to support intra-African trade, reducing the continent’s dependence on fuel imports. Chikote, impressed by the refinery’s scale, expressed Zambia’s interest in collaborating with Dangote to enhance energy security and competition in the region.
During their visit, the Zambian delegation explored key facilities, including the Single Point Mooring, Dangote Jetty, Africa’s largest fertilizer plant, and the world’s largest single-train refinery, capable of processing 650,000 barrels per day. Chikote described the refinery as a model for African self-sufficiency, emphasizing that Africa must reduce reliance on foreign imports. He lauded Dangote’s vision, stating that his initiative is a blueprint for Africa’s economic independence.
