The highly anticipated supply of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) by the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals in Lagos has been postponed from June to mid-July. Aliko Dangote, President and CEO of the refinery, announced the delay during a visit by a Senate delegation led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
During the tour of the $20 billion facility, Dangote cited a slight delay but assured that PMS production would commence between July 10th and 15th. He emphasized that the refinery plans to keep the PMS in tanks a bit longer to ensure proper settling, aiming to release it to the market by the third week of July.
The Senate delegation, impressed by the refinery’s scale and potential, toured the facility, which began operations last December with a processing capacity of 350,000 barrels per day. The refinery has already started supplying diesel and aviation fuel, playing a critical role in stabilizing Nigeria’s fuel supply and reducing import dependence.
Senate President Akpabio praised the refinery, calling it “the 9th wonder of the world,” and commended Dangote for his significant contribution to the nation’s economy. Marketers are hopeful that once the refinery begins supplying petrol, it will help reduce the current retail prices, which range from ₦568 to ₦700 per litre, depending on the location.
