Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has praised the imminent fuel production from the Dangote oil refinery, stating it will strengthen Nigeria’s economy by resolving persistent fuel shortages and conserving foreign exchange. The refinery, which can produce 650,000 barrels per day, is set to deliver petrol to filling stations within 48 hours as arrangements with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited are finalized.
Governor Abiodun, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, highlighted that the Dangote refinery’s commencement marks the end of over three decades of reliance on fuel importation. With the Warri and Port Harcourt refineries also preparing to start production, the governor expressed optimism that Nigerians would soon enjoy relief from fuel scarcity and the economy would experience a positive turnaround. He commended Aliko Dangote’s perseverance in completing the project and acknowledged President Bola Tinubu’s role in bringing the refinery online.

According to the governor, local fuel production will significantly reduce the outflow of foreign currency, which aligns with the government’s vision for economic diversification. He further emphasized that the refinery will create thousands of jobs and improve energy security, ensuring stability in fuel prices. This, in turn, will enhance the business environment and attract foreign investment, contributing to broader economic growth.
