Award-winning singer and performer, David Adeleke OON, popularly known as Davido, has once again demonstrated his philanthropic nature by donating a total of 237 million naira to support the less privileged in Nigeria. Making the announcement on his Twitter platform on July 20, 2023, Davido revealed that this tradition of giving back started a few years ago on his birthday when he sought to use his platform to provide help and support for those in need.
His recent donation was met with excitement from his fans, and in his social media post, Davido expressed his gratitude to everyone who contributed, stating that they are collectively changing lives. He emphasized that this act of giving is a testament to his belief in rising by lifting others, and he thanked all those who played a part in making a positive impact on the lives of others.
The tradition of giving back started in 2021 when Davido requested his friends to support him on his birthday by sending him a sum of one million naira each. The collective contributions amounted to 200 million naira, and Davido added an additional 50 million naira to the sum before donating it to various orphanages in Nigeria.
In February 2022, the singer released the full list of over 200 orphanage homes across all 36 states in Nigeria that had received the donations, showcasing his commitment to transparency and accountability in his charitable endeavors.
