Ebireri Morisson, a patent drug trader from the Oviorie community in Isiokolo, Ethiopia East Local Government Area, has been detained by members of the Delta State Police Command’s Rapid Response Squad for allegedly possessing firearms and ammunition.
This was said in a statement released on Monday by DSP Bright Edafe, the command’s police public relations officer, copies of which were provided to Warri-based journalists.
The statement claims that on October 7, 2023, the 40-year-old patent medicine merchant was apprehended “following credible information” that led the operatives to storm the neighborhood.
One locally made short gun and one live cartridge were found during the search, according to the PPRO.
He said that while the case is being investigated, the suspect is now being held.
A second suspect was detained in Asaba, according to the police spokesman, as a result of coordinated efforts to purge Delta State of illegal weaponry.
According to the PPRO, on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, SACU agents were conducting a normal patrol along Cable Road in Asaba when they came upon a biker and his passenger, who quickly descended off the moving motorcycle and ran off running.
Following a vigorous pursuit, Ifakachukwu Igwala, a male suspect aged 27, from Kwale in the Ndokwa-West LGA was apprehended.
When the suspects’ handbag was checked, one locally made Beretta pistol, two live 9mm rounds,
one locally made single barrel shotgun, and one live cartridge were found.
“Preliminary inquiry has shown that the suspect collaborates with his accomplice Kelvin, who is still at large.
The culprit is in custody, and efforts are being made to apprehend his eluding companion.
CP Wale Abass, the state’s chief of police, has assured the public that the command has carefully planned the necessary deployments and security measures for the next winter months.
