Delta Governor Seeks Collaboration for Niger Delta Development

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has called for increased collaboration between the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs and state governments to ensure that the Niger Delta region benefits from quality projects during President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Governor Oborevwori made this plea on Saturday during a visit from the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Abubakar Momoh, and his delegation in Asaba, the capital of Delta State. The governor emphasized that such collaboration was essential to improve the living conditions of the region’s residents.

He cited recent visits by the Minister of Works, Engr David Umahi, to assess federal roads in the state, including the Warri-Benin Road and the East-West Road, expressing concern over the deteriorating state of these vital transportation routes.

Governor Oborevwori urged the Minister to take action to address the challenges faced by the region, highlighting that the Niger Delta contributes significantly to the nation’s wealth and deserves attention in terms of infrastructure development, security, and youth empowerment.

He also raised concerns about erosion threatening riverine areas and the need for road infrastructure improvements. The governor emphasized that the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and the Ministry of Niger Delta were established to focus on the specific needs of the Niger Delta region.

In response, Minister Abubakar Momoh explained that his delegation’s visit was part of a stakeholder engagement in the Niger Delta region to assess the existing situation and challenges. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between the Ministry and state governments to facilitate development and peace in the Niger Delta.

Momoh also highlighted President Bola Tinubu’s “renewed hope agenda” with eight presidential priorities aimed at improving Nigeria. He expressed a desire for the NDDC and the Ministry to partner with state governments to identify major projects that could be executed in the Niger Delta region, aiming to enhance development outcomes.
