The suspected murder of a teacher, Sunday Ufah, in the school grounds was denounced on Thursday by the Nigeria Union of Teachers’ Ika South branch in Delta State.
At Alihame Mixed Secondary School in Agbor on Wednesday, Ufah is said to have been attacked by a student’s father who goes by the name Uweke, which ultimately resulted in his death.
The student and others were punished by the school administration after it was learned by reporters that they had consumed someone’s palm wine on a farm.
According to a source in the neighborhood, a man complained to the school administration after some students entered his farm and drank his palm wine. The instructor punished the pupils, but one of them told his father about the matter.
The father went to the school and struck the teacher with a cane. The teacher immediately collapsed and began to struggle for survival. Fear prevented anyone from interacting with the man.
As the man walked away, they hurried the teacher to the hospital, where it was discovered that he had passed away.
NUT protested in the streets on Thursday in response to the teacher’s passing.
“We are embarking on a peaceful protest over the sudden death of one of us, late Sunday Ufah, after a sudden attack on the staff members of Alihame Mixed Secondary School, Agbor yesterday (Wednesday),” branch chairman of NUT Ika South Isaac Arimokwu said during the peaceful demonstration.
“We are requesting that the police and the Delta State Government apprehend the offender.”
When reached, DSP Bright Edafe, the state police public relations officer, verified the death and said the culprit had been taken into custody.
“The man is a father of one of the students who claimed that his son was flogged, and as a result, he attacked the teacher,” said Edafe.
