“Deputy Governor of Delta State Sheds Light on Drug Abuse as the Underlying Catalyst of Criminality”

The Deputy Governor of Delta State, Monday Onyeme, has emphasized the crucial role of tackling drug abuse in effectively combating criminal activities within society. Onyeme stressed that stringent measures must be taken to address drug abuse if the government aims to succeed in its fight against criminality.

Speaking in Asaba during a courtesy visit from the State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), John Omotosho Tunde, Onyeme highlighted the strong correlation between drug abuse and criminal behavior. He emphasized that by effectively addressing drug abuse, the overall crime rate in society can be significantly reduced.

Onyeme expressed his appreciation for the proactive measures taken by the NDLEA, which have contributed to the decrease in drug abuse cases in Delta State. He reassured the agency of the state government’s commitment to collaborating with the NDLEA and other relevant agencies in their collective efforts to create a safer society.

Acknowledging the importance of the NDLEA’s work in combating drug abuse and its connection to crime, Onyeme urged the agency not to relent in their efforts. He also affirmed that the current administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori would continue to support and partner with the NDLEA and other agencies striving for a better society.

In response, Mr. Tunde informed the deputy governor about the agency’s activities in the state during the meeting.
