A 60-year-old Kenyan woman, Connie Muuru, has openly criticized a Nairobi club for organizing a party dedicated to divorcees. The event, held on January 25, 2025, aimed to bring divorced individuals together, reduce societal stigma, and foster a sense of community.

Connie, a three-time divorcee herself, took to Facebook to express her disapproval, emphasizing that divorce is not something to celebrate. She described her painful experiences with marriage and divorce, stating that despite her failed attempts, she still believes in the beauty and sanctity of marriage. Connie explained that her goal is to inspire her children and grandchildren to build lasting unions rather than normalize separation.
“Divorce is not an achievement,” she wrote passionately. “Though mine didn’t work, I wouldn’t wish this life on anyone. Single life is tough and lonely. But if a marriage becomes toxic, it’s better to leave peacefully than to stay and suffer.” Connie’s heartfelt words struck a chord with many, offering a sobering reminder that while divorce may sometimes be necessary, it should never be glorified.
