Drivers express alarm over corpses  on the Lagos-Ibadan highway

Concerns about the increasing number of cases of bodies being discarded along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway have been voiced by several drivers in the Mowe-Ibafo area.

The drivers who met with reporters on Wednesday voiced concern over the spread of sickness and the security risk such a persistent problem may present to them.
Journalists who went to the Mountain Top University axis of the road saw a body with burnt scars wrapped in a blue fabric and tied with rope dumped along the roadside.

Additionally, it was learned that on Tuesday, a second corpse was dumped just in front of the campus, following a recent incident of a similar nature.
Security personnel were instructed to shine their searchlight on the area by a driver who talked to our correspondent under the condition of anonymity out of fear of being questioned by the police.

“I believe the body was discarded overnight, but I am unable to confirm it because the odor emanating from that axis caught my eye. It indicates that this location is unsafe,

Another driver, who only went by the name Rasheed, warned that if the decomposing body wasn’t removed right away, it would endanger other road users.
“The odour coming from the dead body is not good at all and it can cause health issues if it is not urgently taken away,” he stated.

When reached, Omolola Odutola, the police public relations officer for the Ogun State Command, gave people advice to always report such incidences to the local divisional police officer while noting that she had already alerted the closest police station to take the appropriate action.

“When people see something like that, they should go to the nearest police station and report it. People should constantly try to notify their DPO of such concerns because they cannot act if the police are not informed. The issue is that frequently we are unaware of a missing person until their family contacts us to report them missing,” she said.

The Chairman of the Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area, Lanre Ogunsola, requested that our correspondent send a message to him regarding possible action on evacuating the body, but as of the time this story was filed, he had not yet replied to the message.
