In a heart-wrenching incident, two church attendees, Femi Akinola and Tunde Falade, lost their lives due to drowning while swimming in a river. The incident occurred on Monday during their visit to the Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Onikoko, Ogun State.
According to a statement by Omolola Odutola, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, the unfortunate incident took place when a group of seven individuals, who had come from Lagos to attend the church’s inauguration on August 27, 2023, decided to go swimming. Tragically, both Femi Akinola, 32, from Odo Eran, Itire, Lagos State, and Tunde Falade, 35, from Kola Alagbado, Lagos, were swept away by the strong currents.
Adebayo Adeosun, a fellow church member, reported the incident to the police around 6.30pm. The two victims were quickly rushed to Ifo General Hospital, where they were later pronounced dead. Despite the efforts of the medical staff on duty, their lives could not be saved.
Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Olayemi Jacob, dispatched a team to the scene. Their assessment revealed no signs of violence or foul play, confirming that the tragic incident was a result of the strong tides.
