ECOWAS Condemns Plot to Disturb Peace in Sierra Leone

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has strongly condemned a plot by certain individuals to disrupt peace and constitutional order in Sierra Leone. The regional bloc expressed its dismay over the reported plan to acquire arms for this purpose.

In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, ECOWAS stated, “The bloc has learnt, with utter disgust, a plot by certain individuals to acquire arms and disturb the peace and constitutional order in Sierra Leone.”

The statement further condemned this act and called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of all individuals involved in this illegality. ECOWAS reiterated its unwavering commitment to a zero-tolerance policy regarding the unconstitutional change of government.

“We want to reaffirm our commitment to supporting the government and the people of Sierra Leone’s quest to deepen democracy and good governance by consolidating peace and security so as to foster socio-economic development,” the statement emphasized.

In response to the perceived threat, the Sierra Leonean government took a proactive step by declaring a 24-hour nationwide curfew aimed at safeguarding peace and preventing any potential disruption.

ECOWAS has consistently emphasized its commitment to maintaining stability and democratic governance across West Africa, and this recent condemnation underscores the organization’s dedication to upholding peace in Sierra Leone.
