Edo APC Warns Against Premature Governorship Endorsements

Benin City, Edo State – The Edo State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a stern warning to its officials, cautioning them against prematurely endorsing governorship aspirants in anticipation of the upcoming elections next year. The party has emphasized that those who disregard this directive will face sanctions.

The Deputy Chairman of the state APC, Jaret Tenebe, issued this warning during a meeting held at the party secretariat in Benin, the state capital, where party executives received Hon. Ehiozuwa Agbonayinma, a governorship aspirant.

Tenebe commended Agbonayinma for his approach, stating, “The best thing you have done today is coming to inform the party of your ambition after consulting. You can now engage with our people in various local governments, informing them about the various Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) signed by the Obaseki government that resulted in no tangible development.” He further urged Agbonayinma to draw attention to the neglect of traditional rulers in the state, saying, “From your credentials, you have what it takes to lead.”

Addressing the party executives, Agbonayinma solicited their support for his nomination as the party’s candidate for the governorship. He asserted that he possesses the qualifications and experience to govern the state, having been mentored by former governor Adams Oshiomhole, who, he claimed, performed admirably across all three senatorial districts without bias.

Agbonayinma stressed the need for the APC to rescue the state, promising to bring about significant change if elected governor. He assured the party executives of his commitment to inclusivity in decision-making processes if he attains the governorship position.

The aspirant, a former member of the House of Representatives, highlighted his past achievements in government roles and expressed concern about the slow pace of development in various sectors within the state. Additionally, he called attention to the need for the equitable distribution of palliatives related to fuel subsidy removal provided by President Bola Tinubu, asserting that Edo State has yet to initiate this distribution to its citizens and demanding accountability in the process.
