The Edo State Government has dissolved the media team associated with the Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu. The Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, issued a statement on Monday announcing the decision. The government has instructed the deputy governor to seek media coverage for his office’s activities from the Ministry of Communication and Orientation.
The statement explained the reason for this decision, stating, “This directive followed the ugly and unfortunate incident that happened during the colloquium held to mark the 60th anniversary of the Midwest Referendum celebration held at the Sir Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub and Soundstage, where some journalists, who claimed to be the media crew of the deputy governor attempted to force their way into the hall where the governor and other invited dignitaries were already seated.”
It further mentioned that this action contradicted the established protocol for media coverage of the event. The statement concluded with the regret that the orchestrated disruption had occurred.
