The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced the arrest of two suspected internet fraudsters at the residence of Nigerian musician John Njeng Njeng, popularly known as Skales. The arrest was made by operatives of the EFCC Lagos Command at House F10, Victoria Crest 4, Lekki, Lagos.
Key points from the EFCC statement include:
- Suspects’ Identities: The two arrested suspects are identified as Udemba Chukwuemeka (a.k.a. Jody) and Jamal Jamiu Onasola (a.k.a. Jamal).
- Alleged Involvement in Dating Scam: The suspects are suspected of being involved in a dating scam.
- Association with Skales: In their statement, the suspects described Skales as their ‘mentor.’ Chukwuemeka had been residing at Skales’ residence for two years, while Onasola had been staying there for a shorter period.
- Legal Action: The EFCC stated that the two suspects would be charged to court once investigations are concluded.
It’s worth noting that Skales had earlier raised concerns about an alleged invasion of his home by EFCC officials. The EFCC spokesman, Dele Oyewale, responded by denying such claims, emphasizing that the anti-graft agency does not operate in the manner described by Skales.
This incident highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies in Nigeria to combat internet fraud and related cybercrimes. The EFCC, in particular, plays a critical role in investigating and prosecuting individuals involved in fraudulent activities.
