EFCC Links Emefiele to Massive Abuja Property

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has linked former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele to a massive estate in Abuja, comprising 753 duplexes and apartments. The property, located in Lokogoma District’s Cadastral Zone, spans 150,500 square meters and is reportedly the agency’s largest single recovery since its inception in 2003.

Court documents revealed that Emefiele allegedly used proceeds from kickbacks and fraudulent activities during his tenure as CBN governor to acquire the estate. The EFCC claims he negotiated bribes in exchange for foreign exchange allocations and received kickbacks from contractors awarded CBN contracts.

The anti-graft agency further alleged that Emefiele collaborated with cronies, including Ifeanyi Omeke, who facilitated the purchase and documentation of several high-value properties in Lagos and Abuja. The recovery of the Abuja estate was sanctioned by a ruling from Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie of the FCT High Court on December 2, 2024.
