Abuja, Nigeria – An operative of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) tragically took his own life at his residence in Abuja on Monday. The deceased, whose identity has not been disclosed, was a member of Course 5 at the EFCC academy. EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident, including potential mental health and family challenges.
In a separate development, the EFCC has formed a disciplinary committee to address the case of two operatives accused of assaulting a woman during a hotel raid in Lagos. The incident, captured in a viral video, involved the assault of a female employee at the Regional Hotel in Ojo. EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede ordered the arrest of the officers and directed them to appear before a joint Disciplinary Team on Monday, July 1, 2024, to ensure accountability and transparency.

The EFCC emphasizes its commitment to maintaining professional conduct within the agency. The disciplinary committee, comprising the Appointment, Promotion and Disciplinary Committee (APDC) and the Department of Ethics and Integrity, will thoroughly investigate the assault case and recommend appropriate actions against the officers involved. The EFCC’s actions reflect its dedication to upholding ethical standards and addressing misconduct swiftly and effectively.
