Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has issued a stern warning that individuals and facility owners involved in the proposed three-day Kiss-A-Thon program, aimed at breaking a Guinness World Record, will face prosecution. The State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Dayo Apata, emphasized that allowing participation in the event would be considered an indecent act, contrary to the law of Ekiti State.
In a Prohibition notice, Apata highlighted that the planned Kiss-A-Thon program violates sections 148 and 150 of the Criminal Law (2021) which prohibit indecent acts in the state. Violators of the law can be charged with felony, leading to a potential three-year imprisonment.
The Ekiti State Government has expressed its concern over the proposed program, deeming it indecent, absurd, and detrimental to the state’s reputation. Consequently, the government has officially prohibited the Kiss-A-Thon program throughout Ekiti State. The notice warns that any individual or corporate body involved in executing or supporting the event will be prosecuted and held accountable according to the law.
