Emir Sanusi II Unconcerned About Potential Removal

The 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has expressed indifference about the possibility of being removed from his position again. In an interview with Saturday Sun, Sanusi, who was reinstated by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf after being dethroned by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje in 2020, stated that his tenure is ultimately in God’s hands.

Sanusi remarked, “Only God knows how long I will be here. I can die tomorrow. Another governor can come tomorrow and say that he has removed me, it doesn’t matter.” He emphasized his contentment as long as the integrity of the emirate remains intact, grateful for the government’s efforts to restore and preserve the 1,000-year history of the emirate.

Reflecting on his time away from the throne, Sanusi shared that he used the period productively. “In the last four years, I’ve not been idle. I had just completed writing a PhD Thesis at the University of London, a week before I returned to Kano. I will be going back next month to conclude some things, because I will be graduating in September.” Sanusi highlighted that crises can provide opportunities for personal growth and new endeavors.
