The organizers of the #EndBadGovernance protest in Lagos have temporarily suspended the demonstration to evaluate progress and re-strategize. Comrade Hassan Taiwo Soweto, one of the protest organizers, clarified that this pause does not signify succumbing to threats from security operatives.
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, had announced that the protest was outlawed, citing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent speech as the reason for calling off the protest. He warned that any future gatherings would be deemed unlawful and would face legal action.
However, Soweto emphasized that the protesters are taking a day off to reassess and plan further actions, reaffirming their commitment to peaceful protest as allowed by the constitution. He assured that the protest is not over and that further announcements will be made soon.
