Governors Peter Mba of Enugu State and Uba Sani of Kaduna State have appealed for military assistance to address the escalating insecurity in their respective regions.
During a visit to the Naval Headquarters in Abuja, Governor Mba requested the Navy’s support in dealing with non-state actors’ activities. He highlighted that he had banned the sit-at-home order imposed by IPOB to protect the state’s economy and fulfill promises made to the people regarding security.
Expressing gratitude to President Tinubu for appointing Rear Admiral Ogalla as Chief of the Naval Staff, Mba assured that Enugu State would not let him down. He also expressed interest in partnering with the Navy to ensure peace and security.
In response, Rear Admiral Ogalla welcomed Governor Mba’s visit and mentioned the Navy’s existing cooperation with state governments. He explained that the Nigerian Navy had ongoing operations in Onitsha, Anambra State, and Oguta, Imo State. Ogalla added that the Naval Headquarters had planned to establish a strong naval presence in Enugu to enhance security in the state and the entire South-east region.
Similarly, Governor Uba Sani paid a courtesy call on Major General Taoreed Lagbaja, Chief of Army Staff, at the Army Headquarters in Abuja. Sani requested additional troops’ deployment to Southern Kaduna, covered by Operation Safe Haven, to combat bandits and other criminal elements.
Commending General Lagbaja for his efforts in countering banditry along the Abuja-Kaduna road and Birnin Gwari area, Sani appreciated the Kaduna State Government’s support and partnership with the Nigerian Army to restore peace.
General Lagbaja acknowledged Kaduna State as a crucial ally, hosting various military institutions and formations. He praised Governor Sani for being the first governor to visit the Army Headquarters since his appointment and assured continued dedication to achieving sustainable peace and stability in the state.
