Former Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) President, Rev. Samson Ayokunle, has said that allegations of U.S. funding for Boko Haram are long overdue. Speaking on Inside Sources with Laolu Akande on Channels Television, Ayokunle noted that CAN had previously warned about foreign backing for terrorism in Nigeria, but their concerns were dismissed.
He questioned why the U.S. Congress took so long to reveal this information, criticizing both international bodies and Nigeria’s security agencies for failing to track terror financing. He argued that the claims must not be ignored.
Meanwhile, counterterrorism expert Zagazola Makama dismissed speculation that former U.S. President Barack Obama supported Boko Haram, stating there is no credible evidence. He explained that Boko Haram initially relied on local funding before affiliating with ISIS in 2015.
