In a letter dated October 5, 2023, addressed to the Chairman of the party in Shongom ward, Shongom Local Government Area of Gombe State, Binta-Bello conveyed her decision to quit the party, with the resignation taking effect on Thursday.
Having been a loyal member of the PDP for more than two decades, Binta-Bello did not disclose specific reasons for her departure from the party. Her decision marks a significant political development in the region.
Binta-Bello’s political journey faced a setback in 2019 when she contested a Senate seat to represent Gombe South but was defeated by the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bulus Amos.
During her career, Binta-Bello served as a Deputy Chairman of Shongom Local Government Area and also held a Commissioner position under the administration of former Governor Muhammad Goje.
In her resignation letter, Binta-Bello expressed her gratitude to the entire leadership of the party for their support throughout her more than two decades of membership. She wrote, “I am writing to tender my resignation from the People’s Democratic Party with immediate effect. Attached herewith, I am also sending in my PDP membership card. This decision was not an easy one and I have consulted with people before taking such a step due to certain factors. I want to use this opportunity to thank the party for all the support given to me for over two decades. I wish you nothing but success in the future.”
As of the time of reporting, Fatima Binta-Bello had not responded to text messages sent to her telephone regarding her decision to leave the PDP.
