Former Senator Alex Kadiri, who represented Kogi East from 1999 to 2003, has called on fellow party members not to make inflammatory statements as the November 11 gubernatorial election in Kogi State approaches. The 82-year-old ex-senator expressed concern about the situation within the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its impact on the state. He shared his perspective on the party’s leadership and its approach to the election.
Kadiri criticized the APC’s actions in Kogi State, arguing that they haven’t done enough to warrant fielding a candidate for the upcoming election. He expressed dissatisfaction with the party’s focus on winning at any cost and the use of violence in political processes. He lamented that educated individuals from the state are reluctant to return home due to security concerns.
The former senator also expressed disappointment in the way the party has approached electoral disputes and questioned the mockery he perceives they are making of the judiciary. He emphasized his dissatisfaction with the state of democracy and governance, calling for the party to focus on delivering good governance to the people rather than making threats.
Kadiri mentioned his desire to speak with former Lagos Governor and APC leader, Bola Tinubu, to share his concerns and offer advice but expressed frustration at his inability to secure a one-on-one meeting with him. He concluded by stressing that political parties owe an obligation to the people, not the other way around, and encouraged his party to prioritize the welfare of Nigerians.
