The family of Justina Otuene, a murdered female student at the University of Port Harcourt, has demanded justice.
Otuene was allegedly murdered by her boyfriend at his home in Ozuoba, in the state’s Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
Similarly, the institution’s management stated that it would not rest until justice was served.
Remember that the police presented Damian Chinemere, a 400-level student of Petrochemical Engineering at the same university who was arrested in connection with the terrible crime, on Thursday?
Responding to inquiries from reporters in Port Harcourt, the deceased’s elder brother, Osas Otuene, said the family is grieved by the news of her death.
Osas, who is also a 500-level chemical engineering undergraduate at the university, stated that his late sister recently turned 21.
While praising the police for their efforts in apprehending the perpetrator, he stated that all his family desires is justice for his late sister.
“On Wednesday, we got a call from someone saying that a dead body had been reported at the Ozuoba Police Station and that we should go there,” he explained.
“So I reported to the Investigating Police Officer at Mini-okoro Police Station, and with some of my relatives, we went to Ozuoba Police Station and met the officer who confirmed the corpse.”
“All we require is justice.” Allow the law to run its course against the man who murdered my sister and everyone else involved in this horrific crime because he was not acting alone. “My father is late since she was the only girl in the family. My mother is still alive, but she is in great distress right now. So it’s a tough one for us.”
Meanwhile, the University of Port Harcourt’s Dean of Student Affairs, Chima Wokocha, said the Vice Chancellor, Georgewill Owunari, has called on the police to do everything in their power to ensure that justice is served in the situation and that the institution is humiliated by the occurrence.
“I want to assure you that the university will not attempt to obstruct the legal process,” Wokocha said. In addition, the university is concerned about its image as a result of this occurrence.
“The Vice-Chancellor has insisted that justice be served because no student here has the authority to kill or assault anyone.” It is incorrect.
“The punishment for fighting or getting physical in the university is outright expulsion, and in the university through then, the Vice Chancellor has told the police to do everything possible to unravel the mystery surrounding the death of this very promising young lady.”
The UNIPORT Dean of Student Affairs also urged parents to always counsel their children and wards against the desire for immediate money.
“They (parents) should warn their children about this quick wealth thing and this relationship thing.” That was not the case back then.
“As a result, I implore parents and guardians to try to warn, control, and monitor their children.” And if they find their kids doing things they should not, they should immediately report them to the university administration if they are in UNIPORT or to the Police so that this type of activity may be stopped,” Wokocha added.
