Family of Nnamdi Kanu Raises Concerns Over Denial of Access by DSS

The family of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has raised an alarm over the denial of access to him by the Department of State Services (DSS). Kanu’s younger brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, expressed concern and doubt about his brother’s health condition, revealing that on Thursday, members of the family were denied access to him.

“None of those who went to see him on Thursday was allowed to see him. Why would the DSS suddenly decide to deny Kanu access to his visitors, an action that is a flagrant violation of the Abuja High Court order?” Prince Emmanuel Kanu questioned.

He further stated, “Such action raises suspicion that the DSS has something to hide about our brother. The DSS is stopping my brother’s visitors from seeing him, which is another flagrant disregard of a subsisting court order and their effort to conceal my brother’s deteriorating health condition.”

Prince Emmanuel Kanu expressed frustration with the situation, stating, “For me, the DSS has become a private security company where the authority manages it as his personal family business. I am yet to know why my brother is still currently in detention against court orders.”

The Abuja High Court had previously ordered the Department of State Services to allow Nnamdi Kanu unfettered access to his family and lawyers twice a week. The family’s concerns highlight the need for adherence to court orders and transparency in Kanu’s detention.
