Kara Bus Stop, Lagos – A devastating auto accident occurred at the Kara Bus Stop segment of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Sunday, resulting in the loss of at least five lives. Reports indicate that around 15 other individuals sustained various degrees of injuries and are currently receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital.
The accident took place on the outbound Lagos lane of the highway and involved a truck bearing registration number KRD-12HGS, a CRV SUV, and an interstate commercial bus. The precise cause of the accident remains undetermined as of the time of reporting.
Adebayo Taofiq, the Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), confirmed the accident and provided details on the casualty figures during a telephone conversation with one of our correspondents. He stated, “Five individuals lost their lives in the crash, and over 15 others who sustained injuries have been transported to medical facilities. We have deployed LASTMA officials to the scene, along with other emergency responders, including the Federal Road Safety Corps, who are actively managing the situation.”
He emphasized that determining the cause of the accident would be a priority, but the immediate focus was on rescuing the victims and ensuring their welfare before initiating any legal proceedings.
The aftermath of the crash resulted in a significant traffic jam, leaving motorists and commuters stranded for several hours. The traffic congestion extended into Lagos, compelling some motorists to resort to driving against traffic flow, inadvertently obstructing vehicles heading towards Lagos.
Authorities are working diligently to restore traffic flow and conduct a thorough investigation to ascertain the circumstances leading to this tragic incident.
