“Fatalities Reported as Gunmen Enforce IPOB’s Sit-At-Home Order in Ebonyi”
Gunmen enforcing the sit-at-home order allegedly issued by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have reportedly taken the lives of three tricyclists in Ebonyi State, located in Southeast Nigeria. According to Findwhosabi News, the incident occurred on Tuesday at the Ishi-Eke market in the state capital, Abakaliki.
A video that has gone viral shows the gunmen firing their weapons indiscriminately, while demanding the release of the detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu. In the footage, a voice can be heard threatening to continue enforcing the sit-at-home order until Kanu is set free, as gunshots echo through the still mid-day air.
The voice in the video declares, “This is happening live at Ishi-Eke market, Abakaliki in Ebonyi State. We demand the immediate release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. There will be no peace in the land until Kanu is freed. Shoot them, kill them, destroy everything, and set it ablaze since they refuse to obey simple instructions. They were instructed to stay at home, but they disregarded the directive.”
“I want nothing to remain. Burn down everything you see. We are extremely displeased. Kanu must be released. Without Nnamdi Kanu, there will be no peace in this land. As you can witness, everything is engulfed in flames.”
On June 14, Simon Ekpa, a self-proclaimed follower of Kanu, announced a total lockdown from July 3 to 10, excluding July 6, across states in the Southeast region, as a means to exert pressure for the release of the IPOB leader.
