FBI Director Christopher Wray announced on Wednesday that he will resign in January, ahead of President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration. Wray, who was appointed by Trump in 2017, cited the need to step down to uphold the bureau’s values and avoid further controversies.
Trump, set to assume office on January 20, 2025, has nominated loyalist Kash Patel to lead the FBI. Expressing his approval of Wray’s resignation, Trump accused Wray of overseeing actions that he claims undermined his presidency, including the 2022 Mar-a-Lago raid.
In his farewell message, Wray emphasized the importance of the FBI’s mission and stated that his decision was in the bureau’s best interest during this transitional period.
