The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has alerted medical personnel and hospitals in Abuja to prepare for potential victims with gunshot wounds following a shootout during protests against bad governance. This directive comes after hoodlums blocked the Lugbe end of the Shehu Musa Yaradua Expressway, leading to an exchange of gunfire with police operatives.
Dr. Olumide Emmanuel emphasized the importance of immediate medical response in such situations. The FCT Police Command highlighted the Compulsory Treatment and Care for Victims of Gunshot Act 2017, mandating urgent medical attention for gunshot victims. Hospitals are advised to notify local police divisions to investigate the circumstances of such cases.
Commissioner of Police Benneth Igweh warned against using the protests as a cover for crimes like armed robbery and vandalism, assuring that security measures are in place to maintain law and order. He also thanked residents for their cooperation and assured them that their rights and properties will be protected during the ongoing protests.
