A nationwide protest, tagged #FearlessInOctober, has officially kicked off today in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory. The protest, an extension of the #EndBadGovernance demonstrations held in August, was fueled by the ongoing economic challenges many Nigerians face. Protesters gathered as early as 7 a.m. at Utako market in Abuja, where the rally is now in full swing.
Damilare Adenola, Director of Mobilisation for the Take It Back Movement, voiced concerns about the harsh economic conditions, which he attributes to government policies. While the protest continues, the Federal Capital Territory Police Command has assured residents that the Independence Day celebrations on October 1 will be secure and without disruption.
The FCT Police Command confirmed the deployment of personnel and equipment across Abuja, including anti-riot gear and Explosive Ordinance Disposal units. Traffic diversions will be in place in high-traffic areas like Central Area and Eagle Square, and residents are urged to stay alert and report any suspicious activities.
