The Federal Government of
has declared Wednesday, September 27, 2023, as a public holiday to commemorate the Eid-ul-Mawlid celebration, which marks the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.
The announcement of the holiday was made in a statement issued on Monday by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Oluwatoyin Akinlade. The statement also conveyed the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo’s message, in which he extended congratulations to all Muslim faithful, both within Nigeria and in the diaspora, on the occasion of this year’s celebration.
The Minister emphasized the importance of embracing virtues such as love, patience, tolerance, and perseverance, which were exemplified by the Holy Prophet Muhammad. He called on Nigerians, especially the youth, to adopt these values and to work hard while maintaining peaceful relations with others, regardless of their faith, ideology, social class, or ethnicity. The Minister urged citizens to collaborate with President Bola Tinubu’s administration in its efforts to build a progressive and esteemed nation that all citizens can take pride in.
