Ekiti State, Nigeria – The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested three female petrol station attendants in Ilawe Ekiti for allegedly defrauding the station owner of N7.92 million. The suspects, identified as Olaiya Oluwaseyi, Omotosho Seun, and Ajayi Funke, were reportedly employed as pump attendants at the same filling station where the fraudulent activity took place.
The Commissioner of Police, Dare Ogundare, revealed that the suspects admitted to the alleged crime during police interrogation. They reportedly confessed to sharing the stolen money among themselves and using it to address personal issues. Items recovered from the attendants included generators, plasma TVs, washing machines, standing fans, an industrial sewing machine, electric iron, oven toaster machine, DVD player, upholstery chairs, and a substance suspected to be a charm. The police also confiscated a sum of N250,000 from the suspects.
The suspects will be arraigned accordingly, and the police have expressed their appreciation to the public for providing timely and useful information leading to the arrests.
The incident serves as a reminder of the need for employers to implement effective financial controls and oversight within their organizations to prevent and detect fraudulent activities.
