The meeting between the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Federal Government concluded inconclusively, leading to the scheduling of another meeting for a later date, as reported by Findwhosabi
Simon Lalong, the Minister of Labour and Employment, is set to hold discussions with representatives from the Trade Union Congress (TUC), headed by its national president, Festus Osifo, later today.
The backdrop to this meeting stems from the NLC’s threat of an indefinite strike in protest against what it deems as “anti-poor” policies implemented by the administration led by President Bola Tinubu. In response, Minister Lalong extended an invitation to the labor unionists for a meeting in his Abuja office on Monday.
Present at the meeting were high-ranking officials from the Ministry of Labour and Employment, including Joe Ajaero, the national president of the NLC, Emmanuel Ugboaja, the general secretary, and Titus Amba, the national president of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, among others.
However, it was reported that no concrete solutions were reached, and major decisions remained elusive at the conclusion of the meeting.
It’s worth noting that earlier, Findwhosabi had covered how the NLC had declined a prior meeting convened by the minister in an effort to avert a two-day nationwide strike.
Further details on this matter will be provided in due course.
