The Federal Government announced on Monday the suspension of duties, tariffs, and taxes for importing maize, husked brown rice, wheat, and cowpeas through land and sea borders. The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, revealed this at a press conference in Abuja.
Kyari explained the 150-day duty-free import window for these commodities, emphasizing that imported food items will follow a Recommended Retail Price (RRP). He assured that safety standards for consumption would not be compromised.
Additionally, the government plans to import 250,000MT each of wheat and maize to support small-scale processors and millers nationwide.
