A fire at Tejuosho Market in Yaba, Lagos State, destroyed properties worth millions of naira on Wednesday. The blaze, which started around 12:30 pm, engulfed numerous wooden shanties along the Tejuosho Canal. No casualties or injuries were reported.
The fire reportedly began when food was left unattended on a gas cooker in one of the rooms, quickly spreading to adjacent wooden structures. Panic ensued as residents fled the scene.
Emergency services, including LASEMA, Lagos Fire Service, Nigeria Police, and Lagos Neighbourhood Security Watch, responded promptly. LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, and Fire Service Director, Margaret Adeseye, confirmed that the fire has been contained and rescue operations are ongoing to prevent further damage to nearby buildings.
