Fire Incidents Hit Abuja Gym, Minister’s Home, and Kwara Shops

A fire broke out at Eco Fitness Center in Abuja’s Gwarinpa area on Wednesday, November 13, 2024. The incident, which started around 10:00 a.m., saw around 50 people escape from the gym. While the fire was controlled, it caused extensive damage to the building, and the cause remains unknown. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

This incident occurred just a day after a fire gutted the private residence of Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Mariya Mahmoud, in Asokoro. Her media aide confirmed the property was completely destroyed, with no items salvaged. The response time of firefighters was reportedly slow, and the cause is still under investigation.

Earlier in the week, a fire also destroyed a structure with 25 shops in Ilorin, Kwara State. Firefighters arrived to find several shops fully engulfed, though they managed to save most of the building. Preliminary findings suggest the fire was caused by a power surge.
