The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has confirmed a fire outbreak at the Itamaga Plank Market in Ikorodu, Lagos. According to a statement by Nosa Okunbor, Head of the Public Affairs Unit, the agency received emergency calls early Wednesday and swiftly deployed its Lion Squad from the Agbowa Base. Upon arrival at 4:20 AM, responders found one shop engulfed in flames, later determined to have been caused by a power surge.
Thanks to the coordinated efforts of the LASEMA Response Team and the Lagos State Fire & Rescue Service, the fire was contained and extinguished, though the shop sustained significant damage. Fortunately, no casualties were reported. LASEMA has since secured the area and provided guidance to occupants on safe electrical practices.
Meanwhile, Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate, has expressed deep sorrow over a separate fire explosion in Niger State. The tanker accident claimed over 30 lives and killed 50 cattle. Obi extended condolences to the affected families and commended emergency responders for their swift actions in both Niger and Oyo States, where similar incidents occurred. He prayed for the victims and their families during this difficult time.
