Fire Ravages Yobe Market, Traders Count Losses

A fire outbreak early on December 3 destroyed properties worth millions at Bayan Tasha Market in Damaturu, Yobe State. The blaze, which left several shops and structures in ruins, prompted a swift response from the Yobe State Fire Service, preventing the flames from spreading to nearby homes.

Senior fire officer Adamu Yaro confirmed the quick intervention after receiving a distress call, though the damage was already extensive. The incident has reignited public concern over the locked Damaturu Modern Market, with residents questioning why traders remain in makeshift, high-risk conditions.

In a related event, a fire suspected to have started from an electrical surge gutted 17 shops at Moniya Market in Oyo State. The fire, which broke out around 12:30 am, caused significant losses, destroying goods and cash before the fire service contained it.
