In a surprising revelation, Sam Amadi, director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thoughts, shared that Sule Lamido, former governor of Jigawa State, once boasted he would go into exile if Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, secured one million votes. Amadi made this claim on his X account on Monday.
Amadi’s post followed a notable meeting between Obi and Lamido, who governed Jigawa from 2007 to 2015 and is a prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member. Reflecting on this development, Amadi highlighted the unpredictable nature of politics, which can swing from morbid to lighthearted moments. He celebrated the newfound friendship between Obi and Lamido, despite their past political rivalry.
Recalling a strategy session for Atiku Abubakar, Amadi wrote, “Politics can be morbid; it can also be lighthearted. I toast to this friendship. During the strategy session for Atiku, I argued that @PeterObi should be taken seriously as he has mobilized the youths. Gov Lamido boasted that if Peter gets 1m votes he would go on exile.”
Meanwhile, the Deputy National Youth Leader of the PDP, Timothy Osadolor, welcomed the meeting between Peter Obi and top PDP figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Senate President Bukola Saraki. These discussions, which took place behind closed doors at Atiku’s Abuja residence, signal a potential political realignment.
Osadolor expressed optimism about the collaboration among opposition leaders, viewing it as a crucial step towards challenging President Tinubu in the 2027 election. He emphasized the importance of unity among opposition parties to rescue and restore Nigeria, praising the PDP’s acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, for supporting this effort.
Osadolor said, “It’s positive to see these leaders coming together to challenge President Tinubu in the 2027 election. They will work to save and restore the nation. More of these meetings are necessary to strengthen unity among opposition parties. They must do everything lawfully possible to rescue Nigeria.”
