The NFF expressed their condolences via Twitter, @thenff, stating, “We are sad to hear of the passing of former @NGSuper_Falcons goalkeeper, Bidemi Aluko-Olaseni after an eight-year battle with cancer. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. May her gentle soul rest in peace.”
Bidemi Aluko-Olaseni, known for her remarkable contributions to teams like Rivers Angels and Sunshine Queens, graced the goalposts for the Super Falcons from 2012 to 2013. Her resilience and talent made her a beloved figure in Nigerian football.
The goalkeeper’s cancer journey began in 2017 while playing for Rivers Angels in the Nigerian Women’s Premier League. In 2019, she opened up about her battle, detailing the challenges she faced. After the cancer was detected, Bidemi underwent surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation, displaying immense courage throughout her treatment.
Sadly, the ailment forced her premature exit from the sport she loved. Bidemi Aluko-Olaseni, who dedicated years of her life to football, disclosed that she needed around N5 million for treatment in Nigeria.
As the football community comes to terms with this loss, Bidemi Aluko-Olaseni’s legacy will be remembered not only for her prowess on the field but for her indomitable spirit in the face of adversity. May she rest in peace, and may her family find strength in the outpouring of support from fans and colleagues alike.
