Four people have reportedly died as a result of a bandit attack in Maru, which is located in the Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Mohammed Bawa, a local, told the media that although Emir Abubakar Maigari of Maru managed to escape his palace when the criminals came in, he lost one of his guards right away and injured several others.
Bawa said the emir’s vehicles were also damaged by many gunshots.
He explained that the bandits had come back to the town on Thursday again, still looking for the Emir. After they failed to find him, they killed four people by walking from house to house.
The Emir managed to flee after the criminals broke into his palace and opened fire on him without warning, according to Bawa.
“They wrecked all the cars there and killed one of the palace guards.”Last night, the bandits made their way back to the town. Unable to find the Emir, they proceeded to search from home to house, killing four people in the process.
“Today, Friday, funeral prayers were held in accordance with an Islamic decree.”
As this is Friday, the day of the market, the state government has announced that the popular Maru market will be closed due to the possibility of an attack by bandits.
Munnir Haidara, the state commissioner for information, issued a statement in which he stated: “The state administration has closed the Maru market till the security situation is improved following the Maru town security situation.
“Dauda Lawal, the state’s executive governor, extends her condolences to the families of those killed in last Thursday night’s bandit attack.”
