Four Years After Murder of Nigerian Man in India, Wanted Suspect Finally Apprehended

One of the suspects in the murder of a 35-year-old Nigerian man in Nalasopara, Mumbai, four years ago has been captured by Indian police.

The Times of India claims that on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, a crime branch official discovered the accused, Kancha, age 28, living in the same town as someone else.

Two people are now being held in connection with the crime after being apprehended, including Kancha, also known as Roshan Bechain Mandal and Ashfaq Mohammad Sheikh. Two more are still at large.

On October 16, 2019, a road in Nalasopara’s Pragati Nagar neighborhood was where Joseph, also known as Chindiniju Amechi Wilson, was found dead.

Following this occurrence, local Nigerians expressed their displeasure, which led to the vandalization of parked cars and calls for the capture of the offenders.

The police detained Nasir Khan after identifying four males during their inquiry for their claimed involvement in the incident. A representative from the Vasai crime branch (unit II) verified that a charge sheet was subsequently submitted to the court against him.

Six months after the crime, police were tipped off that the perpetrator, Kancha, alias Roshan Mandal, had moved to Bengaluru and taken on a new name. He was discovered living in Nalasopara under the alias Ashfaq Sheikh and had changed physical characteristics.

According to police authorities, the murder was related to a drug transaction.
