In Kumbotso LGA, Kano State, a nine-year-old girl has allegedly been defiled by Auwalu Abubakar, a garden egg dealer.
The victim of the November 9 crime was bedridden for a week prior to being released from the police facility in Bompai, Kano, after being admitted for three days.
“She was first brought back home crying after school hours; she fell into a drain and sustained injuries,” Aisha Auwal, the victim’s sister, stated in statement regarding the crime.
When I first visited her, she told me she was alright, but later on, we noticed that she was breathing heavily and walking strangely. She remained silent when we questioned her.
“We didn’t realize her pants and trousers were stained with blood from her private part until we insisted and thoroughly examined her.”
The girl was then forced to identify the perpetrator, the source continued, and she was taken to the Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital, where it was established that she had been sexually assaulted.
She went on, “Auwalu, the garden egg vendor, was taken into custody by the police when she disclosed that he was the person in question.
Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Kano State police spokesman, did not return calls.
According to sources, the girl is an orphan; thus, they have called on the authorities to make sure the offender gets punished. Justice won’t be served until the state government takes over the case, the insider claimed.
