Ghana Bar Association Elects First Female President, Efua Ghartey

In a historic election, Efua Ghartey has become the first female president of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA). Ghartey won against former GBA presidents Tony Forson and Yaw Boafo on Wednesday, marking a major step forward for women in Africa’s legal profession.

Afam Osigwe, President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), congratulated Ghartey on her victory, calling it a “beacon of progress” that breaks barriers for women in law. Osigwe emphasized the significance of her win for gender equality in leadership across the continent.
