Ghana will experience a 21-day power outage caused by a gas supply shortage from Nigeria, as announced by State-owned electricity companies GRIDCO and ECG on June 13. The power interruptions began on June 12, 2024, due to reduced gas supplies affecting various regions.
The West Africa Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCO) attributed the shortage to maintenance works by a Nigerian gas supplier, expected to last for three weeks. This has significantly impacted Ghana’s power generation capacity, leading to potential load management measures.
GRIDCO and ECG are collaborating with stakeholders to optimize available resources and minimize disruptions for consumers during this period.
