The Gombe State Police command has presented no fewer than four suspects in connection with 16-year-old Alamin Ahmadu’s murder.
Police investigations found that one of the suspects, 25-year-old Ahmadu Ibrahim, was an apprentice who planned the kidnapping and killing of Alamin, the son of his boss.
Babuka Abubakar, 35, Abdulsalam Mohammed, 28, and Muhammadu Abubakar, 28, all of Liji quarters in the Yalmatu Deba Local Government Area of Gombe State, are the other suspects that have been identified.
The state public relations officer, Mahid Abubakar, paraded the suspects on Friday. He said the anti-kidnapping squad received a formal complaint from Ahmadu Yaya, the deceased father, who claimed some unknown people had contacted him and told him his son had been abducted and that they were demanding N5 million as ransom.
According to the PPRO, Yaya also disclosed that his son Alamin, a student at Ubaida Academy Arawa, had run errands and hadn’t returned home till he got the phone requesting a N5 million ransom.
Following receipt of the report, the O/C anti-kidnapping squad acted quickly to apprehend the suspects and launch an investigation.
“Further investigation showed that the mastermind behind the victim’s kidnapping was one of the suspects, Ahmadu Ibrahim, who works for the victim’s father at a rice mill.
“The suspect admitted to kidnapping 17-year-old Alamin and taking him to Lijji Hill, but later admitted to killing him after his father failed to pay the ransom of N700,000 naira as previously agreed through phone negotiation. Suspects are under our custody and will be charged to court for prosecution,” Abubakar stated. In the meantime, the Gombe State Police Command paraded Biba Mohammed, a housewife, over her husband’s murder in the city’s Barunde quarters. The state PPRO said the police had received a distress call from an unidentified resident of Barunde Quarters who reported a suspected homicide case in his neighborhood.
Abubakar claims that after police from the Lowcost Division were sent to the area, they found Mohammed Maliki lying dead and that, when questioned, the housewife admitted to killing her husband.
“The victim was rushed to Specialist Hospital right away, where a doctor declared him dead,” the speaker stated. After confessing to the crime, the deceased’s wife, Biba Mohammed, was placed under arrest following a preliminary inquiry.
“In her statement, the deceased’s wife acknowledged hitting his head with a pestle. The matter is presently being looked into by SCID, and once it is finished, it will be brought before the court for prosecution.
