Government and Labour Postpone Minimum Wage Negotiations

The Federal Government and Organised Labour have postponed their negotiations until Thursday. This delay allows time for Finance Minister Wale Edun to present a crucial salary template to President Bola Tinubu, following a directive to outline the financial implications of a new national minimum wage.

President Tinubu instructed Edun to submit the template within two days during a meeting with the government negotiation team, led by Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume. Both government officials and labour representatives seek to review the financial details of the proposed wage increase before further discussions.

Minister of Information Mohammed Idris confirmed the president’s directive and emphasized the government’s commitment to a balanced and sustainable wage increase. He assured that all parties, including the organised private sector and sub-nationals, would work together to establish a new, realistic wage within a week.
