Government Extends Free Train Rides to Jan 7

The Federal Government of Nigeria has extended the period of free rides for commuters on all train services until Sunday, January 7, 2024. The initiative was initially announced by the Nigerian Railway Corporation on December 21, 2023, following a directive from President Bola Tinubu.

Originally slated to conclude on Thursday, January 4, 2024, the extension comes as part of the Federal Government’s efforts to alleviate the impact of the high cost of living, particularly during the Yuletide season. The government had earlier announced a 50 per cent waiver on interstate round transport and introduced free train rides as measures to provide relief to citizens.
